Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Diagnosis of a moderate or major depressive episode without psychotic symptoms and without suicidality - Minimum age of 18 years - Current inpatient treatment in the open psychiatric ward of the Braunschweig hospital - Ability to understand the study protocol and provide written informed consent after receiving detailed information - Living alone without pets - Staying alone overnight during stress testing in own home

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Presence of psychotic symptoms or suicidality - Severe comorbidity that could interfere with the conduct of the study

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Investigation of possible correlations between sensor-based data and the symptoms, the degrees of expression of the disorders as well as individual parameters of depression, and observation of the development of psychiatric symptoms, the course of therapy and the efficiency of therapy in relation to these correlations.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Presentation of the technical feasibility and the casuistic description of the recorded sensor data, suitability of these sensor data for the early detection and progression assessment of the mental illnesses as well as estimation of whether an added value for physicians and therapists in the diagnostics and therapy of these illnesses is possible with the use of sensors. Investigation of the acceptance towards the used technology. Measurement methods are different room-related sensors from the field of home automation and body-related sensors from the field of smart watches and fitness bracelets. Interviews and questionnaires with patients and specialists will be used to assess the added value and acceptance.
