Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients must have consulted their general practitioner with complaints of vertigo, dizziness and balance disorders of any etiology within the last three years. They must have appropriate verbal and cognitive command of the German language. They have to be able to walk 10 meters (with or without walking aids). General practitioners and physical therapists are eligible when they have professional working experience with patients with vertigo, dizziness and balance disorders and accreditation of the statutory health insurance.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients had to have no legal guardian. Patients were excluded from the study when in-patient hospital treatment was required.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
At three measurement points (baseline (T0), after 6 (T1) and 12 weeks (T2)), the impact of dizziness on Activities of Daily Living was measured using the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
At three measurement points (baseline (T0), after 6 (T1) and 12 weeks (T2)), the health-related quality of life was assessed by 5-level EuroQol 5-dimensions (EQ-5D-5L), the patients daily-life physical activity profile by actigraphy and their balance using the Mini-Balance Evaluation Systems Test (miniBEST), as well as more detailed information on the time of types of physical (in)activity by physical activity diary. At four measurement points (before baseline and one week after T0, T1, T2), the types of physical activity in daily life was determined by means of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ).
