Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: - Complete unilateral DN injury - Single DN injury or multiple DN injuries - Height of lesion: A1 pulley up to 10 mm proximal to the eponychium (proximal nail fold) - Primary nerve reconstruction - Direct reconstruction or reconstruction with grafts (nerve, vein grafts) / nerve conduits
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: - Incomplete DN lesions - Secondary nerve reconstruction (e.g., neuromas) - Pregnancy / nursing period - Diabetes mellitus, peripheral polyneuropathy or other neurological diseases interfering with nerve regeneration - Known nerve compression syndrome of the upper extremity - Previous surgery / injury to the affected digit - Patients under legal care
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| - Re-Innervation-Mapping: Assessment of sensory nerve regeneration by detection of the non-sensitive area of the affected digit over a 6 month postoperative period. | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| - Hoffman-Tinel sign: Evaluation of the nerve regeneration distance. - Static 2-point discrimination (s2PD): Assessment according to the modified Highet classification. - Sharp-blunt discrimination: Differentiation between sharp / blunt sensation in the autonomy area of the injured DN. - Ten-test: Indication of the sensation in the autonomy area of the injured DN in tenths compared to the standard findings. | — |
