Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - normal/corrected sight - german language Patients: - diagnosis of ADHD according to criteria of DSM 5 - no medication for ADHD or a 48-hour interval without medication for ADHD prior to the study

Exclusion criteria: - severe psychiatric disorders - antisocial personality disorder - moderate/severe substance use disorder - severe organic diseases, epilepsy - skin disease/injured skin on the head - pregnancy

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
As primary outcome the error rates and reaction times of the Continuous Performance Test will be compared between the three experimental blocks and between the two groups.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcome involves the analysis of EEG and eyetracking parameters. Concerning the eyetracking we will perform a detailled analysis of the gaze behaviour including specific areas of interest (AOIs) relevant for the feedback. Through specific fixations as well as duration and number of fixations we will analyse to which amount the participants have (a.) focussed on the task, (b.) focussed on distractors (as means of unattention), (c.) looked around the room (as means of mind-wandering). Mind-wandering will be operationalized as a function of increased relative fixation duration and reduced dispersion as well as reduced number of fixations and saccades. The relative frequency of the three gaze patterns will be compared between ADHD patients and healthy controls. EEG analysis will focus on ERP-analysis as well as time-frequency analysis (theta-beta-ratio). Here, we will focus on the comparison between time intervals of high unattention (meaning the participant is looking at a distractor), mind-wandering and attention (meaning the participant is focussed at the task), as well as the comparison of the two groups. In addition, several subjective parameters will be measured and interpreted, such as the participants' subjectively perceived degree of attention during the training as well as their overall satisfaction with the training.
