Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Written consent of the patient and/or next of kin (with signature) Age: 18-85 years Hospitalisation on the stroke unit of the neurological clinic of the University Medicine Mainz Ischemic stroke visible by neuroimaging 24 hours or less from onset of symptoms to arrival at the hospital
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Primary hemorrhagic stroke Coma/Stupor Intubation Clinically unstable or life-threatening condition (oxygen-dependent respiratory disease or pulmonary complications, severe renal or hepatic failure, agitated patient, patients undergoing blood pressure-increasing therapy >24h after stroke). Known progressive neurological disease (e.g. dementia, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis) drug or alcohol dependence (> 14 standard units/week for men, > 7 standard units/week for women).
