Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Main diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism (ICD 10 Code E21.0) caused by a single parathyroid adenoma. Surgical treatment thereof at the Pius Hospital in Oldenburg, Germany using parathyroidectomy (OPS 2020 Code 5-067.0 and 5-067.1). Successful adenoma excision as confirmed by adequate IOPTH decay and final pathology.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients younger than 18 years of age. Unclear diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism. Secondary and tertiary hyperparathyroidism, as well as primary hyperparathyroidism due to multiple adenomas, polyglandular hyperplasia or parathyroid carcinoma. Unsuccessful surgery (adenoma not found intraoperatively, no confirmation by IOPTH and/or final pathology report). Adenoma within the thyroid gland.
