Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with descending necrotizing mediastinitis treated at the departement of Otolaryngolgy and Head and Neck Surgery between 1997-2018.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with an acute mediastinitis resulting from nondescending causes, such as iatrogenic e.g. poststernotomy. Patients who refused after sending them the questionnaires.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Remission, death. Data will be extracted from in-house software.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Quality of life, dysphagia, comorbidities, patient related data, duration of remission and stationary treatment, complications in the course of the treatment. Data will be extracted from in-house software. Information about the actual status of quality of life will be sampled with the help of above-mentioned questionnaires.
