Conditions

The aim of the school-based prevention program is to promote a healthy lifestyle of primary school pupils and thus improve their physical fitness, their health behavior as well as their attention and concentration performance over 3 school years. In addition, the general health and health behavior of teachers will be investigated over 3 years. At school-level, the health-promoting measures are documented over 3 years.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Children: Pupils in the 2nd grade from about 80 schools whose principals are willing to participate in the detailed evaluation and who have a written informed consent from their parents/guardians for the evaluation. Teachers: Teachers in schools that focus on "teacher’s health" as main topic of the prevention program. Schools: Schools, who agree to participate in the project over (at least) 3 years.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Children: No written informed consent from parents/guardians. Teachers: Missing questionnaire. Schools: Unwillingness to participate in the program.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Change in physical fitness of the children over 3 years measured by a motor test battery (baseline assessment – assessment after 3 years).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Children: a) Change in health behavior over 3 years. b) Change in attention and concentration performance over 2 years and association with change in physical fitness. c) Change in attention and concentration performance over 3 years. Teachers: Change in subjective health and health-related behavior of teachers (online and paper questionnaire at baseline and after 3 years). Schools: Establishment of health promoting measures in schools (online surveys at baseline and after 3 years).
