Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Sub-project2: Primary outcomes are emotion regulation and mental health status of children of mothers with BPD, anxiety/depression and with no mental disorder. Emotion regulation will be examined via behavior observations in age-appropriate waiting tasks carried out in the laboratories. The waiting tasks will provoke negative affects which enable the coding for emotion regulation strategies (Adrian, Zeman, & Veits, 2011). The temperament of the child will be measured with maternal report questionnaire developed by Mary Rothbart (IBQ, ECBQ and CBQ; Putnam, Garstein, & Rothbart, 2006). Mental health status will be measured with semi-structured interviews (Baby-Kinder-DIPS), conducted with the mothers. Therefore, we developed a hybrid version of the Baby- (Popp et al., 2016) and Kinder-DIPS (Neuschwander et al., 2017) to capture the prevalent disorders for the child age range of 6 months to 6 years. Additionally the Strenghts and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ, sdqinfo.com) will be applied as a brief screening instrument for mental health. Sub-project 3: The familiy climate will be examined with several aspects. Emotions in the parent-child-relationship will be assessed in quality and intensity of emotion displayed in FMSS (Magana et al., 1986). The FMSS is additionally analyzed in terms of mother's coherence (Sher-Censor & Yates, 2010). The mothers' psychophysiology will be conducted via emotional arousal in interaction with their child (paralinguistic cues, f0-analysis; Weusthoff, Baucom, & Hahlweg, 2013). Cognitive features of the relationship will be examined with the mothers' perceived quality of the relationship (PRQ; Kamphaus, & Reynolds, 2015; IEKB; Briegel, Greuel, Stroth & Heinrichs, 2019) and kind of attribution of child behavior (CRDI, CRC; Briegel, 2013). The maternal attribution of negative child intentionality and maternal anger/hostility will be measured with the CV (Haskett et al., 2003; Azar, Stevenson, & Robinson, 2012). Behavior aspects of th

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The secondary outcome is the evaluation of the mother training. Therefore the longitudinal assessed primary outcomes of the three study groups will be compared. This will be done for both sub-projects.
