Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria are a AIS with a Cobb-Angle between 10° and 25 and a medically certified sports capability.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria are an age before reaching 10 and after reaching 17, other forms of scoliosis, a continuous treatment of the scoliosis over more than 12 month and if the last radiological examination is older than 3 month.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1. Radiology radiological examinations (EOS) are done before and at the end of the interventional phase. Outcome is the Cobb-Angle. 2. Clinical Examination patients are examined by a medical physician anamnestically and clinically before and after the interventional phase. Outcomes are the extent of rib hump and lumbar bulge measured by a scoliometer, the Otts and Schober sign. 3. Motor Skill Tests: Three tests are performed twice before and once after the interventional phase the repetition before the interventional is necessary to analyze possible biases and to calculate the random error. 3.1 Modified Trunk Muscle Strength Test according to Bourban is performed to estimate the dynamic strength endurance of trunk stabilizing muscles of the lateral chain. The modification refers to the shortened lever length. Patients should move their pelvis rhythmically up and down as long as possible during a side plank. Outcome is the time in s. 3.2 Y-Balance Test (upper quarter) for a combined examination of the mobility and stability within a closed kinetic chain. Participants reach 3 times as far as possible with one hand in 3 directions (medial, superiorlateral, inferiorlateral) by staying in an one-handed push-up position. Outcome is the distance in cm relativized to the arm length. 3.3 Climbing Ergometer test Patients climb twice a defined route on a rotating climbing wall for as long as possible. Thereby the wall inclination is increasing over time and thereby the climbing more difficult.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Pain: The actual pain and pain over the last 2 month is questioned before and at the end of the interventional phase (12 month). Questions come from „Deutsche[n] Schmerzfragebogen für Kinder und Jugendliche“. The secondary outcome is score on the pain scale from 0 to 10.
