MeasureTime frame
The primary goal of the study is to observe a possible change in the reduction in anaerobic performance under hypoxic conditions through bicarbonate supplementation. A 60-second sprint test is carried out to determine the anaerobic performance. The subject wears a hip belt, which is attached to a fixed attachment point using a static rope. A load cell is attached to the rope. To generate an anaerobic exercise load, the test subjects sprinted against the resistance at maximum pace (maximum step frequency). The test is carried out as a pre-test to sea level, as well as after 3 days of a stay at an altitude of approx. 3500 m. The parameters peak force, mean force and minimal force are recorded. Further, the fatigue index is calculated from these parameters.

To control for the implementation and physiological effectiveness of the bicarbonate supplementation, the pH value of the morning urine is determined on the pre-test day and during the altitude sojourn using indicator sticks. Furthermore, during the pre-test and the test at 3500 m before and after the 60 second load phase, blood gas analyzes are carried out using capillary blood samples (100µl). Blood lactate analyzes are then carried out in the minutes 2, 5 and 7 and 10. In addition, heart rate is assessed before and immediately after the sprint test.
