Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All participants were subjected to clinical and sociodemographic interviews by two independent clinical investigators (physicians for psychiatry), after having confirmed the diagnosis (ICD-10 criteria), and carried out the behavioral tests, namely the urn test and the tokens test. Healthy controls were recruited from the general population via posters.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria were abnormal or corrected abnormal vision, alcohol consumption within the last 24 hours and recreational drug use within the last 24 months.

Based on the above, the proposed study aims to generate biological evidence for the hypothesis that pathophysiological impairment of NMDA and GABAA neurotransmission is causally involved in disorders of perception and decision-making processes (Adams et al., 2013; Fletcher & Frith, 2009; Gonzalez-Burgos & Lewis, 2012). Hypotheses I. Patients with schizophrenia, depression, or at-risk mental state show different impairment of performance in perception and decision behavior tests compared to healthy control subjects. II. The extent of performance impairment will be more pronounced in patients with simultaneous pathophysiological cortical excitability disorder. This has been proven several times for patients with schizophrenia. III The risk of patients in an at-risk mental state developing a schizophrenic disease as opposed to a depressive disease can be stratified on the basis of performance in the behavioral test. The urn test and the token test were performed as diagnostic tasks. The study design is a non-interventional study of the type "Other" (i.e. in the context of the study additional diagnostics were carried out, but not to make a diagnosis, but to gain insights into physiological processes).
