Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Clinically suspected meningitis, encephalitis or other infection of the central nervous system; hospitalisation in either of the two pediatric hospitals; analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (collected via lumbar puncture or with neurosurgery).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Treatment as outpatient; lumbar puncture for other diagnostic means (e.g. previously known epilepsy).
