Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Residents in facilities for inpatient long-term care in the city of Braunschweig with written consent of the residents, alternatively of the legal representative, for the collection, documentation and analysis of data on emergency and availability management
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Residents in facilities with predominantly other forms of care than inpatient long-term care according to Social Code Book XI (e.g. residential homes with less than 50% nursing home places according to Social Code Book XI) Residents without written consent

| (1) Reduction in the proportion of nursing home residents who died in hospital (outcome). Data basis: Data from the Health Department of Braunschweig on death certificates in the city of Braunschweig in the sense of a full survey of all deaths. (2) Increasing the confidence of nursing professionals in emergency situations and in dealing with residents in the dying phase (process). Qualitative operationalization through focus group discussion, development, implementation and evaluation of a standardized survey of nursing professionals. (3) Fulfillment of the requirements for effective implementation/application of the recommendations for action, considering the will of the residents in the facilities of the intervention group, and identification of any barriers to implementation (structure). Qualitative operationalization through results-oriented evaluation of the implementation measures (e.g., training) on recommendations for action, surveys/group interviews of multipliers, documentation collected during the project (e.g., on facility characteristics and emergency situations), and inclusion of initial results of the standardized survey of nursing staff. | — |
