Inclusion criteria: Patients, treated at the neonatal intensive care unit for at least 48 hours
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Treatment for less than 48 hours, prior treatment at another hospital ward than the neonatal intensive care unit

| Transmission events (pathogens of the same genus/species in different patients which are indistinguishable after genotyping). Patients enrolled in the study will receive a weekly microbiological screening to detect colonization by bacterial agents. Immediately after sample collection, samples are cultured and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) is performed. Bacteria of the same species are genotyped by AFLP (amplified fragment-length polymorphism). Frequently occurring strains of the same species which cannot be differentiated by means of AFLP are referred to as clonal lines and further analyzed by application of whole genome sequencing (WGS). | — |
