Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Amblyopic patients (visual acuity> 0.1 log MAR or visual acuity <0.1 log MAR in the poorer eye) are recorded with anisometropia, anisometropia associated with strabisme, or amblyopic patients with strabismus. It is required that these patients are at least 4 years old. Through a Germany-wide network, we can also include retrospective data from Ophtalmologists who already have used the Caterna visual training in combination with occlusion therapy as an amblyopia therapy.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: No patients with other pre-existing ophthalmologic conditions and patients with defensive amblyopia (weak-sightedness of organic cause) may be enrolled in the study. Patients with learning disabilities must also be excluded. Even patients with known epilepsy must be excluded from the Caterna Vision training.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Eye patching therapie will be continued until the worse eye reaches the same visual acuity as the better eye or there is no further improvement of the visual acuity of the worse eye. Check-ups remain unaffected. The check-ups are the regular checks-ups by orthoptists and Ophtalmologists. The Caterna visual training are designed to keep patients alert and are played on the computer at home for 30-45 minutes/day, during the patching period for at least 90 days. The prospective data analysis will take place over a period of 5 years. The goal of this studie is to look if the additional use of Caterna visual training has an additional effect on the eye patching therapy.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
There are no official guidelines on amblyopia treatment. The aim of the study is the optimize the amblyopia therapy through data analysis of a data network.
