Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Young healthy male participants, aged between 18 and 35.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: excessive alcohol intake; nicotine addiction; regular intake of drugs like cannabis; shift work; body mass index above 29.99; acute or previous psychotherapeutical treatment; physical disabilities; left-handed people; TSST experience

MeasureTime frame
TSST performance (0-100), self- and other-rating (passive judge, active judge, video rater; measured after the experiment). Questionnaires on subjective stress experiences, decision motives, social cognition (Interpersonal Reactivity Index), self-control (Self-Control Scale), empathy (Balanced Emotional Empathy Scale); measured at first appointment in the group laboratory without stress induction. Moderation of stress effects: more prosocial behavior in participants who perform well in the TSST?

Social behavior (modulation of outcomes affecting others; measured by third-party modulation of other-affecting outcomes; 10 points per trial which can be used to in- or decrease the outcomes of others by up to 30 points), social cognition (detection of emotional face expression, happy, anger; modulated Emodetect by Zimmer & Domes, 2019) and neurophysiological correlates (ERPs after outcome presentation); psychophysiological parameters like heart rate, stress hormones (cortisol), subjective stress perception. Modulation by between-subjects factor "treatment" (stress vs. control) and within-subjects factor "group" (ingroup vs. outgroup), moderation by TSST (Trier Social Stress Test) performance, self-control, heart rate increase.
