Group 1: Participants who exercise more than 7 hours per week will fill in the Exercise Dependence Scale and other questionnaires on psychiatric health Group 2: Participants who score above the cutoff

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • 7 hours or more of exercise per week AND • Able to understand and sign the informed consent Additional inclusion criteria for FMRI analysis • Identified as having a psychiatric disorder as an underlying cause for excessive exercise habits Inactive controls Inclusion criteria (FMRI analysis) • No more than 1 hour a week of exercise • No history of psychiatric disorders • Able to understand and sign the informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Medical contraindications to FMRI exposure (vascular clips, prosthetic heart valves, pacemaker, other medical devices, pregnancy). • Pregnancy. A pregnancy test will be carried out with female participants before the FMRI. • Acute or chronic psychiatric dysfunction that would make completing questionnaires of undergoing a screening interview impossible or unsafe.

Results of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM V (SCID II) in a sample of participants with symptoms of exercise addiction.

• List of symptoms currently held to be indicative of possible exercise addiction in the scientific literature • Score on the Exercise Dependence Scale • Scores on the Beck Depression Inventory, Trait subscale of the State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), the ADHD Self-report Scale, and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire • Differences in resting state functional connectivity (rsFC) between participants with symptoms of exercise addiction and sedentary controls • Differences in neural activity upon exposure to exercise-related stimuli between participants with symptoms of exercise addiction and sedentary controls • Differences in fearful face processing between participants with symptoms of exercise addiction and sedentary controls
