Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: - Patients who present or are admitted to the emergency department, who through their history and clinical presentation are suspected of having an infection or sepsis - Age = 18 years - Informed and written consent
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: - Clinical exclusion of an infection as the cause of symptoms - Patients with a prediagnosed sepsis, e.g. after being transferred from another hospital. - Patients who have already been previously entered into the study (repeated presentation in the emergency department) - Patients who are already entered into another study which requires more than 35ml of blood samples per week - Lack of consent
