Interventions

Group 1: 20 parturients who will receive phenylephrine infusion, titrated to keep parturients blood pressure within ±5% of basal values Group 2: 20 parturients who will receive norepynephrine infusion

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients ASA I and II status, scheduled for elective caesarean section in spinal anesthesia who have given written informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria include contraindications and patients’ refusal of spinal anesthesia, known cardiac, respiratory, neurologic, renal, endocrine, psychiatric disorders, history of drug or alcohol abuse, morbid obesity, preeclampsia, active labor, known fetal congenital abnormalities or signs of fetal compromise.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Our primary goal is to compare the effects of phenylephrine and norepinephrine on maternal and umbilical oxidative stress and therefore conclude which of the used drugs has a better effect.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Our secondary goal is to compare the effects of phenylephrine and norepinephrine on maternal hemodynamics, on the occurrence of nausea and vomiting, on neonatal Apgar score and umbilical gas analysis.
