Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Dementia diagnosis, mild dementia or moderate dementia (Mini-Mental-State Examination value between 10 and 26 points); living in one of the five participating long-term care facilities; person participated not on a structured physical activity program during the last 6 months; person wants to participate on a 12-week physical activity intervention; informed consent from the physician and the care manager as well as from the participant.

Functional mobility: Timed Up and Go Test; Physical functioning (balance, gait speed, strength of lower limbs): Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB); Gait: GAITRite; activities of daily living: Bayer ADL-Skala (B-ADL); Quality of life: QUALIDEM (german version). Data were collected before (t0) and after the Intervention (t1).

Falls: care records (retrospective after intervention); Communication and interaction skills: The Assessment of Communication and Interaction Skills (ACIS) (before the beginning of the intervention, after 6 weeks, after the intervention).
