Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Cardiac surgery under general anaesthesia, informed consent, ability to perform brief cognitive test

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Emergency patients, not being able to perform cognitive test, age < 60 yrs

1. Is the activity of butyrylcholinesterase in the group of patients, who later develop delirium, already reduced pre-operatively, compared to those who do not? 2. Is delirium more frequent in patients, whose butyrylcholinesterase-activity decreases after surgery? 3. Can the pre- or postoperative activity of butyrylcholinesterase serve as a risk factor of delirium? 4. Are differences between patients being operated on with or without cardiopulmonary bypass?
