Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age between 18-35 years or 65-85 years

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Type 1/2 diabetes, acute cancer, stroke/heart attack in the last 6 months, severe food allergies, pregnancy

MeasureTime frame
Comparison of postprandial FGF21 concentrations in young and old adults. 15, 30, 60, 120 and 240 minutes after a meal blood will be drawn, serum and plasma will be stored at -80 degrees until analysis. FGF21 quantification will be done using ELISA kits. At every timepoint Appetit and hunger will be marked on a visual analogue scale. Physical activity will be assessed with the IPAQ short form. Dietary habits will be investigated using a 24 dietary recall and a food frequency questionnaire. The CNAQ will be conducted only in the group of older adults.

Effect of different macronutrients on the postprandial course of FGF21. The participants of every age group will be randomized to a breakfast, which is either a glucose solution, a high carbohydrate, high fat or high protein meal. After the FGF21 concentrations were analysed for every timepoint, an effect of the different meals will be evaluated.
