Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • consent to participate in study (informed consent) • sufficient understanding of the German language • willingness to participate in two assessment as well as to participate in an online-/telephone assessment three months after post assessment • willingness to participate in a 6-weeks exposure therapy • presence of OCD with compulsive checking and/or washing

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • lifetime schizophrenia (F.20) or bipolar disorder • severe neuropsychological disease • acute suicidal tendencies

Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS): The Y-BOCS is regarded as gold-standard for the assessment of OCD symptoms and symptom severity during the last week (baseline-, post- and follow-up).

Visual Analog Scale (VAS): One item that measures anxiety/tension before, during and after each exposure (during session). Obsessive Compulsive Inventory- Revised (OCI-R): The OCI-R is a self-rating questionnaire that assesses OCD symptom severity during the last month (baseline, post and follow-up). Obsessive-Beliefs-Questionnaire (OBQ): The OBQ is a self-rating questionnaire that assesses OCD relevant dysfunctional beliefs (baseline, post and follow-up). Meta-cognitions Questionnaire (MCQ): The MCQ is a self-rating questionnaire that assesses different dimensions of metacognitive beliefs (baseline, post and follow-up). Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7 (GAD-7): The GAD-7 is a self-rating questionnaire for the assessment of anxiety symptoms, which can be used as a screening instrument to identify a generalized anxiety disorder (baseline, post and follow-up). Beck Depression Inventar-II (BDI-II): The BDI is a self-rating questionnaire to measure depressive symptoms over the past two weeks (baseline, post and follow-up). Maladapative and Adpative Coping Style Questionnaire (MAX): A self-assessment questionnaire covering the most important adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies (11 helpful and 10 non-helpful strategies; baseline, post and follow-up). Beliefs Questionnaire (BQ): A self-assessment questionnaire to assess cognitive biases (baseline, post and follow-up). Quality of Life (WHO-QOL-BREF): Self-report questionnaire that measures the quality of life (baseline and post).
