Inclusion criteria: All adult patients with CVC inserted on study date.

Exclusion criteria: age < 18 years

Measure	Time frame
Point Prevalence Study with primary endpoints: - number of central venous catheterisations performed on one day all over Germany and - incidence of various and especially serious mechanical complications and consequences for the patients concerned.	—

Secondary

Measure	Time frame
Prevention of mechanical complications by applying ultrasound technology during the access procedure and optimising the position of the CVC tip (ECG-guidance, echocardiography, CXR).	—
