Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult patients with T2DM who are participating for the first time in a structured patient training course (to be). Adult patients with T2DM who have previously participated in structured patient education. Adult patients with T2DM who have not taken part in structured patient training despite a doctor's recommendation.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Insufficient language skills, other forms of DM, patients who have already participated in structured training.

MeasureTime frame
The aim of the project is to analyse the practice of structured diabetes education in the context of the disease management programme "Diabetes mellitus type 2" and the effects on different patient types. Patients who are included in the study (T1) will receive a questionnaire which will cover the following aspects: - Learning type - disease knowledge - needs for information - Diabetes Self Management - quality of life - reasons for not participating in an structured education - sociodemographic and socio-economic factors Study participants who stated in the first survey that they wanted to take part in a structured education receive another questionnaire after completing the education (T2): - Learning success (more disease knowledge and better self-management) - training perception - reasons for participating in an structured education - family support - quality of life Six months after the training or about 9 months for patients who did not want to participate in a course, all participants receive a final questionnaire (T3): - Continuity of self-management - Retention of diabetes knowledge - family support - quality of life - reasons for participating in an structured education For patients who participated i The success of the training is determined on the basis of (acquired) diabetes knowledge, self-management and quality of life. The connection between the type of learner and the socio-economic status is examined. Possible improvements for the socially disadvantaged will be developed.

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcome is the evaluation of different training concepts approved under the DMP. These will be evaluated on the basis of Stufflebeam's CIPP model. With regard to different learning types and their different ways of acquiring, processing and applying knowledge, it is then examined which learning types are especially addressed by the conception of the training courses and which may encounter problems in adopting the knowledge imparted and implementing it in everyday life. Building on this, the study aims to develop suggestions for improving the training, so that even previously poorly reached patient types can benefit from the training. Other secondary endpoints are the diabetes knowledge of people who did not attend structured patient training despite training recommendations, the reasons for not attending structured patient training (barriers and motivation).
