Group 1: All Study subjects will undergo two consecutive MR examinations within the same day: 1) metabolic imaging using Hyperpolarized Pyruvate Injection (at 3.0T field strength)

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age of 18 years or older; signed Informed Consent Form; previously diagnosed heart failure. In a first, preliminary part of the study (pilot study, N = 5), also adults without cardiac pathologies will be enrolled.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Medically unstable or acute conditions; severe claustrophobia; known or suspected allergy to Gadovist or other Gadolinium based contrast agents; moderate or worse renal insufficiency; atrioventricular block of higher degree; allergic asthma bronchiale; diabetes mellitus; implants contraindicated at 1.5T or 3.0T; pregnancy; lactation; other physical/mental/linguistic conditions incompatible with the study protocol.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
microstructural and metabolic changes of remodeling vs. remote myocardium in patients with heart failure (assessed by MR imaging)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Changes of myofiber stress and glycolytic metabolic activity in remodeling vs. remote myocardium in patients with heart failure. These markers precede changes of routine parameters including ventricular volumes, ejection fraction, septal thickness, and eccentricity.
