Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Men and women aged 20-40 years; Alcohol-use disorder according to 4-5 diagnostic DSM-5 criteria for subjects with moderate AUD (Alcohol Use Disorder); Ability to provide fully informed consent and to use self-rating scales; Sufficient understanding of the German language

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Lifetime history of DSM-5 bipolar, psychotic disorder, or substance dependence other than alcohol / nicotine; Current substance use other than nicotine and alcohol as evinced by positive urine test; Current threshold DSM-5 diagnosis of any of the following disorders: current (hypo)manic episode, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD, borderline personality disorder, or obsessive compulsive disorder; History of severe head trauma or other severe central neurological disorder (dementia, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsia); Pregnancy or nursing infants; Metal implants in body or head, as the beamforming source localization in WP1 and the cTBS in WP2 will be based on structural MR images / neuro-navigated; Current use of medications or drugs known to interact with the CNS within at least four half-lives post last intake

Primary

MeasureTime frame
On each study appointment, the behavioural performance will be measured in three different experimental paradigms that assess aspects of action control and automatisms. The behavioural data (number of correct/incorrect responses as well as response times) will be collected with the help of the software “Presentation” (Neurobehavioral Systems Inc.).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
On each study appointment, EEG correlates of the observed behavioral differences will be measured during the three different experimental paradigms using the software “BrainVision Recorder” (Brain Products GmbH).
