Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: ICU-treated severe sepsis
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Cases with an inhospital treatment of a diagnosed sepsis within 12 month before the considered hospitalization were excluded from the analyses of the insurance data. Patients who were not continuously insured by the AOK over the complete study period from 2009 to 2017 were also excluded. There are no further exclusion criteria.
