Conditions

The GendAge study explores mechanisms of disease development with respect to sex differences and considers socio-cultural factors. The study focuses on cardio-metabolic disease. As part of the GendAge study, a follow-up medical examination of the older sub-population of the Berlin Aging Study (BASE-II) is conducted. BASE-II studies physical, psychological and social factors, which impact healthy aging.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Participants were eligible for inclusion in the GendAge cohort, if they had taken part in the first-wave study (BASE II), belonged to the older age-group of BASE II (N=1600, mean age 68,2 ±3,7 years) and provided written informed consent. The BASE II is a classic convenience sample of 60 to 80 year olds (older age group, baseline), drawn from the Berlin metropolitan area.
