Adaptions on fat metabolism in young and healthy male runners

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: A total of 50 men aged between 18 and 40 years with a BMI between 18 and 26 kg/m2 will be recruited via an article in a local newspaper. In this investigation moderate endurance-trained male runners with a fat mass of > 10 % and an experience of 1-2 training sessions with each of one hour per week should be included. The subjects performed outside trainings sessions and should not on a competition level.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Subjects are only eligible if they are free of acute and chronic diseases such as cardiovascular, metabolic or renal diseases in accordance to the recommendation of American College of Sports Medicine and had neither administered collagen peptides nor similar nutritional supplements in the previous 6 months. Besides a comprehensive anamnesis and physical examination, blood will be tested to investigate safety variables. At a preliminary screening, the inclusion and exclusion criteria will be checked using the anthropometric and questionnaire data, results from blood testing as well as the medical examination.

| Primary outcomes are to investigate the changes in blood lactate (aerobic and anaerobic thresholds), body composition (fat mass and fat free mass) and leg strength. Moreover, the alteration in the metabolic risk profile such as waist circumference, triglycerides, HDL- and LDL cholesterol. In addition, we want to compare the results with placebo. | — |
