Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Written informed consent, body mass index > 18.5 and < 35 kg/m². Groups of depressed patients: moderate or severe depression (ICD-10: F31.3, F31.4, F32.1, F32.2, F33.1, F33.2), admission to in-patient treatment no more than 4 days prior to day of study inclusion. Separation between depressed patients with male depression and depressed patients without male depression according to the Gotland Male Depression Scale
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Schizophrenia, schizotypal, delusional, & other non-mood psychotic disorders (F2). Group control subjects without depression: Regular intake of psychotropic drugs or sex hormones (with the exception of contraceptives), current psychiatric diagnosis according to ICD-10, liftetime psychiatric in-patient treatment, outpatient consultation or treatment due to a psychiatric disorder during the previous ten years
