Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Collective at Department of Pediatrics/ Department of Pediatric Surgery University Hospital Mainz Implantation of tunneled or completely implanted central venous access device in our center During the study period, only one catheter per patient, namely the first one implanted in our center, was examined.

Main outcome measure was the occurrence of catheter-associated complications classified as: Catheter-associated bloodstreaminfection Catheter-associated thrombotic-events occlusion or blockage of catheter- lumen dislodgement or migration of the catheter breakage or rupture of the catheter catheter- associated cardiac events (arrhythmia, perforation)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcome was the interval from implantation of the central venous access device to the occurance of catheter-associated complication. Definitions of risk factors for potential complications included age, gender, underlying disease, type of central venous access device, insertion site and blood vessel used for insertion.
