Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 20 male or female patients with epilepsy having a clinical indicated [18F]FDG-PET examination, and 20 age- and gender-matched healthy volunteers. For both groups: - non-smoker, - age =18 years, - BMI 20-35, - written informed consent.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: - possible cardiovascular diesease - moderate to severe intellectual debility - physical or mental dependence, or other psychiatric diseases - repeated cerebral ischemia, repeated craniocerebral trauma, or rather encephalitis in anamnesis - positive familiy-anamnesis bearing neurodegenerative diseases - surgery during last 3 month - allergy - contra-indications for MRT - underage person or limited contractual capability - parallel participation in other clinical studies - job-related or other radiation exposure >15mSv/a - precnancy or breast-feeding women
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| The primary goal of the study is to gain more insight in complex brain networks using simultaneous [18F]FDG-PET/MR in combination with fMRI, and EEG. Network-data (resting-stage as well as task-stage) from patients with epilepsy will be acquired and subsequently compared to the data of healthy volunteers (age- and gender-matched). | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Do [18F]FDG, fMRI, and EEG show convergent results for physiological, task-related network-activation? Which one and are this effects quantifiable? Do [18F]FDG, fMRI, and EEG show convergent results for phathological network-dysfunction in epilepsy? Are this results useful for the development of new therapy approaches? | — |
