Kleim, Graham, Fihosy, Stott & Ehlers, 2014) to measure future thinking specificity. Participants will be asked to describe a future event related to six positive and six negative cue words.

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: There are 2 groups (1. Addiction group; 2. Control group). Each group consists of 20 participants (male/female, between 18 and 65 years). Participants of the addiction group must be diagnosed with an addiction disorder/substance dependence (F10.2, F11.2, F13.2, F14.2, F15.2, F16.2, F18.2, F19.2). Furthermore, they must be able to speak German and have to be in treatment at the LVR-Klinik Bonn. Participants of the control group must speak German or Dutch and have to be students of the Radboud University Nijmegen.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: - Pure cannabis addiction (ICD 10: F12.2) will be excluded, since no long-term WM impairment was found for cannabis (Crean, Crane & Mason, 2011). - Less than 30 days abstinent: Detoxification can impair cognitive functioning for a couple of days and weeks. To minimize the acute influences of detoxification on cognitive performance, participants of the addiction group must be abstinent for at least 30 days.

| This basic research study (psychology) is non-experimental and non-invasive. The data of each participant will be collected within one individual session (no follow-ups). The following variables will be measured: Mood: The influence of mood on FTS has been found in different studies. To be able to control for this influence, the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II; Beck, Steer & Brown, 1996) will be administered to all participants. This self-report test is designed to measure the intensity of depressive symptoms and consists of 21 items (Likert scale 0-3). Working memory capacity: To measure WM capacity, a computerized 2-back task (Jaeggi, Buschkuehl, Perrig, & Meier, 2010) will be used. A sequence of letters will be presented on a screen one-by-one for a short interval. Participants must decide whether the displayed letter is the same as the letter two trails before. Accuracy serve as measures of performance. Future thinking specificity (FTS): To measure in the addiction group, the Autobiographical Memory Test Future (AMT-f; Kleim, Graham, Fihosy, Stott & Ehlers, 2014) will be used. Participants will be asked to describe a future event related to six positive and six negative cue words. Responses will be audio-recorded and transcribed for coding purposes. The Sentence Completion for Events of the Future Test (SCEFT; Raes, Hermans, Williams & Eelen, 2009) will be used to assess the FTS in the control group. This is done, since the SCEFT is more sensitive in student-sample (Raes et al., 2007). Moreover it is suitable for the online data collection, since the presence of a researcher is not required. It consists of 11 sentence stems (e.g. ‘When I look forward to…’). Participants will be asked to complete the sentences by generating possible future events. Responses of both tests are rated regarding their specificity.
