Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All term and preterm infants treated in the neonatal intensive care unit and the neonatal intermediate care unit of the Universitätsmedizin Göttingen who require non-invasive ventilatory support, whose parents consented, and are without any exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Poor clinical condition (e.g. sepsis); increased tendency to bleed; anatomical characteristics, that make inserting of a nosogastric tube difficult (e.g. choanal atresia); patients in whom inserting nasogastric tubes was very difficult or who do not tolerate this procedure; colonisation with multiresistent bacteria or infection with noro- or adenovirus
