Interventions

Group 1: Metacognitive Training for obsessive-compulsive disorder (MCT-OCD), 8 sessions (90min), once a week over a period of 8 weeks. MCT-OCD is a low-treshold, easy to administer group intervention.
not only biases that are also part of cognitive behavioral therapy, but also those identified by basic research are targeted in MCT-OCD (e.g., biased semantic networks). Group 2: Waitlist control
after 3 months follow-up assessment patients may participate in MCT-OCD

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - diagnosed OCD (ICD-10: F 42) - informed consent - consent to participate in the metacognitive group training - social capacity to participate in the group (judged by therapist)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - lifetime diagnosis of schizophrenia or affective-psychotic symptoms (e.g. manic symptoms) - macroscopic brain changes (diagnoses, organic brain lesions are assessed at baseline) - substance abuse

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Primary outcome is the difference in the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) total score between t0 and t1 assessment .

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The following secondary outcome measures are assessed at baseline (t0), after 8 weeks (t1) and for follow-up (t2): changes in self-reported frequency and distress experienced by OC symptoms (OCI-R), cognitive biases (OBQ), depressive symptoms (BDI), quality of life, and metacognitive distortions (MCQ). Moreover, change in Y-BOCS total score from t0 to t2 is defined as secondary outcome measure.
