Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria for the study are: (a) actively pursuing the nursing profession with direct patient contact; or (b) no active exercise of a management function in a group which includes the group of persons referred to in (a) above (station manager, nursing staff) and (for all mentioned groups), written consent, sufficient German language skills. The intervention should be explicitly offered to all caregivers in order to avoid stigmatisation. Screening with subsequent inclusion of a so-called high-risk group would lead to stigmatisation of these persons, which should be avoided.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria are current incapacity for work or long-term incapacity for work, cognitive impairments, as well as serious physical and psychiatric illnesses or emotional stress, which do not allow participation in the study.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary objective is the development, piloting and (process) evaluation of an intervention module to promote a constructive approach to ageing in the nursing profession. The overriding aim of intervention is to ensure that people remain in the nursing profession for a longer period of time. Against the background of a theory of successful ageing (selection, optimisation and compensation), an intervention that was evaluated in a previous project will be thematically modified and supplemented by elements of relationship prevention. Overarching goals are: Improvement of well-being, modification of age stereotypes, promotion of remaining in the nursing profession. The parameters are quantified using the following instruments at the beginning (T1, "initial analysis") and at T2 (7 weeks after T1) and T3 (14 weeks after T1): SF-12 (Ware, Kosinski, & Keller, 1996), PHQ-4 (Löwe et al., 2010), WHO-5 (Krieger et al., 2014), PROQOL (Stamm, 2009). MAAS (Michalak, Heidenreich, Ströhler et al, 2008), COPSOQ (Nübling, Stößel, Hasselhorn, Michaelis, & Hofmann, 2005), Psychological contracts from PSYCONES (Mohr, Müller, Rigotti, Aycan, & Tschan, 2006), Irritation scale (for mental stress through work) (Mohr, Rigotti, & Müller, 2005), ERI-S (Siegrist, Wege, Puhlhofer, & Wahrendorf, 2009), ITL as single-item query (6-step Likert scale from 1-6 based on the NEXT study) "How often in the course of the last 4 weeks have you thought of giving up your nursing profession and starting another professional activity? (Camerino, 2006), Workability WAI (H. M. Hasselhorn & Freund, 2007), Assessment of work until retirement (Liebermann, Wegge, & Müller, 2013), Age stereotypes in different areas of life (Kluge, 2006; Hassell & Perrewe, 1995).
