Group 1: Index patients with a positive clinical or screening culture for ESBL-producing E.coli and K.pneumoniae will be recruited in hospitals. In each center, we will keep a ratio 1:1 E.coli and K.p

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) Presence of intestinal colonization by ESBL-PE 2) Have at least one other person living in their household, defined as a person who spends at least three nights per week in the same house or apartment. 3) Ability to provide informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Refusal to participate 2) Unable to give informed consent 3) Person living alone at home 4) Planned discharge from hospital to a long-term care or rehabilitation facility 5) Permanently institutionalized residents of nursing homes or long-term care facilities 6) Follow-up not possible or unlikely to be successful

MeasureTime frame
1) Baseline prevalence of genetically related or unrelated ESBL-PE strains. 2) Evolution of intra-individual and inter-individual ESBL-PE relatedness over time. 3) Duration of ESBL-PE carriage among initially ESBL-PE positive index cases. Assessed through survey forms, stool sampling at day 7, day 60 and day 120, microbiological analysis and sequencing (the sequencing is performed in another Work Package in the same project).

Rate and risk factors for the acquisition of genetically related Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL)- producing Enterobacteria among baseline-negative household members, after inpatient discharge of a member of the family living with MultiResistant Agent (MRE). Assessed through survey forms, stool sampling at day 7, day 60 and day 120, microbiological analysis and sequencing.
