Conditions

The indication is not limited. No specific indication is examined. All patients of the three groups of physicians can participate regardless of their illness, provided that this does not prevent them from participation. Patients' preferences are determined for the following attrbutes of the treatment process: time (which the doctor takes for the patient and his treatment), active listening of the doctor, holistic treatment (inclusion of physical, mental, emotional, social factors), involvement

Interventions

Group 1: general medicine - participants/patients in this group have chosen a general practitioner to treat their complaints. The practice staff or the physician hand out the questionnaire and a parti

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age: 18-90 years, current or previous treatment by an acupuncturist, homeopath or general practitioner (depending group assignment) Patients are recruited in the waiting room and fill in the questionnaire either before or after treatment. The point is that they decided to receive the respective treatment. All patients who receive the respective treatment and are willing to participate can be included.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: unsufficient knowledge of German language to successfully complete the questionnaire

utility values ??of the attributes of the treatment process for the participants - Explanation: Patient preferences are determined using a survey and the contained discrete choice experiment (DCE). In the DCE, patients can choose between three fictitious treatment processes, which are described by certain attributes. The treatment process is characterized by six attributes: time (which the doctor takes for the patient and his treatment), active listening of the doctor, holistic treatment (inclusion of physical, mental, emotional, social factors), involvement of the patient, information (which is given by the doctor) and the additional costs associated with the treatment. These attributes of the treatment process have different levels. The patient selects the most preferred treatment process. This decision process is repeated in total 6 times. All treatment processes differ from each other. With the help of the respective decisions, a regression analysis can be used to determine which of the attributes of the treatment process is most important for the patient (economically speaking, this is called "utility"). This means, it determines which attributes are preferred by the patients. This survey is the same in all of the three groups (acupuncture, homeopathy and general medicine). We intend to show possible differences in the types of treatment.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
monetary value of the attributes of the treatment process (willingness-to-pay) - Explanation: The willingness-to-pay is also determined by the DCE. The cost attribute in the treatment process can be used to determine how much importance the costs have for the patients (by regression analysis) and how it can be set in relation to the other attributes (time, active listening, etc.). In this way, it is possible to determine the monetary value (fictitious) of the other attributes of the treatment process (= willingness-to-pay).
