Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Individuals assigned to a winter-over mission at the Concordia station in Antarctica (hypobaric hypoxia) - Individuals assigned to a winter-over mission at the Belgrano-II Antarctica station (normobaric normoxia) - Written informed consent of the subject

Exclusion criteria: - Candidate refuses to participate

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The difference of the averaged blood plasma concentration of nitric oxide between the group at altitude and the group at sea level is the primary outcome. Blood will be sampled on 13 time points during the winterover stay: after 2, 4 and 7 days and 2 and 4 weeks after arrival at the Station and after 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ,8 ,10 and 12 months after arrival.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The difference of the averaged blood serum concentration of hyaluronan between the group at altitude and the group at sea level is the secondary outcome. Blood will be sampled on 13 time points during the winterover stay: after 2, 4 and 7 days and 2 and 4 weeks after arrival at the Station and after 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ,8 ,10 and 12 months after arrival.
