Group 1: After getting the informed consent of the patient a decremental peep trial with 6 steps will started to find the lowest driving pressure of this steps. The PEEP level with the lowest driving

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. ARDS with followed criteria (all): a. sudden onset b. bilaterale infiltrates in the lung c. PaO2/FIO2 < 300 d. no evidence for a cardial reason of the lung failure 2. intubation and mechanical ventilation

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. age 7 days of inclusion 3. pregnancy and the breastfeeding 4. severe cardial diseases (New York Heart Association Klassifikation III or IV, acute Ischemia, ventricular rhythm disorders) 5. every neuromuscular disorders 6. patient in an interventional study 3 months before 7. pacemaker or other electrical implantated devices 8. high risk for death within the first 48h 9. DNR order
