Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Male/female patients with community acquired pneumonia, aged 18 - 90 years, signed informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Age < 18 years, missing signed informed consent, pregnancy, dementia, invasive Ventilation or non-invasive ventilation (NIV), short inhospital stay, malignancy

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary outcome includes changes in thoracic perimeters, subjective performance and measurement of physical fitness by the use of the 6-minute walk test, which are obtained by physiotherapists on days 1 and 5. Thoracic perimeters are measured at the axillary, xyphoidal and subxyphoidal level, and given in cm. Dyspnea score is calculated by using questionnaires including a scale from 0 to 10, where 0 is “no shortness of breath“ and 10 represents “shortness of breath at rest“. Pain score and physical disability score are calculated analogously. Physical Fitness is measured with the standardized 6-minute walk test.

MeasureTime frame
Laboratory parameters on days 1, 3, and 5 include blood counts (BC) and differential BC, and determination of markers of inflammation including C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and blood urea nitrogen levels.
