Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: acute exacerbation of bronchial asthma or COPD with non invasive ventilation. Age = 18 years. Placement of EIT belt possible.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Pacemaker or internal defibrillator, large wounds at the thorax in the area of the belt, patient that cannot give informed consent.

Correlation of blood gases with ventilation in EIT. Correlation of volume curves of the ventilator and EIT signals.
