Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Healthy participants Age 18 – 50 years Normal physical and mental health

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Participants will be excluded in case of: A known history of neurological, psychiatric or musculoskeletal disorders, epilepsy or evidence of any family history of convulsions or epilepsy. Metal implants in their body that would cause artefacts in brain imaging recordings or could conduct current during transcranial stimulation (e.g. metallic splinters in the eye, pacemakers, or electronically/magnetically/mechanically activated implants.) For TMS experiments only, female participants who cannot exclude that they are pregnant Additional non-medical exclusion criteria may be defined for certain behavioural tasks.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary outcome of this study differs across experiments. Typically we will analyse behavioural performance (i.e. performance in different memory tasks) or changes in the EEG signal (power spectrum, coherence).

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The primary goal of workpackage (WP) 1 is to establish a causal relationship between brain oscillations at encoding and their subsequent effect on memory performance in the young, healthy human brain. Validation of the results will be done using EEG. The objective of WP2 is to gain experimental control over neural oscillations by steady-state evoked potentials or tCS and therefore to modulate the oscillatory reinstatement during retrieval. Validation of the results will be done using EEG. The primary goal of WP3 is to gain further knowledge of human context-dependent memory in fully immersive virtual environments. Validation of the results will be done using behavioural measurements and EEG.
