Group 1: 45 volunteers will be given the commonly (empirically) used positive endexspiratory pressure (PEEP) for the complete duration of the surgery. Group 2: Positive endexspiratory pressure (PEEP)

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: adults of at least 18 years of age, informed written consent, thoracic surgery, artificial ventilation

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: known pulmonary disease, cardiac pacemaker, automated implantable cardioverter-defibrillator or other active implants, heart defects
