Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Group 1: normal weight; Body mass index 19-25 kg / sqm Group 2: obesity; Body mass index over 30 kg / sqm

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: acute / chronic internal medicine, neurological or psychiatric disorders, alcohol or nicotine (> 5 cigarettes / d), medication, competitive sports (eg. marathon runners) and situations of particular pressure of psychological and physical nature (+ general exclusion criteria for MRI examinations: metal implants, pacemakers, artificial joints or heart valves, surgical clips, bone screws or plates, pivot teeth, piercing, large colored tattoos, gunshot wounds, severe claustrophobia).

MeasureTime frame
The study examine the vitamin C induced changes of cerebral high-energy phosphates adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and phosphocreatine (PCr) by 31-phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy in magnetic resonance imaging (3.0 Tesla). Therefore, baseline spectra and 5 further spectra were recorded on the first and at the last day of the trial in each condition.

MeasureTime frame
Laboratory analysis included peripheral glucose glucose, C-peptide and insulin, as well as the stress parameter ACTH and cortisol before and are exposed after the intervention on day one and eight in both groups. In addition, the vitamin C-mediated change in food intake is examined via a standardized ad libitum breakfast on every first and last day of the experiment.
