Interventions

Group 1: Antibiotic therapy (ceftriaxone/metronidazol) without planned operation. Group 2: Appendectomy for treatment of uncomplicated acute appendicitis. (Surgical treatment)

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients aged 18 years or older admitted to the emergency department with a clinical suspicion of uncomplicated acute appendicitis. After decision for the conservative antibiotic therapy (by the surgeon and patient) all patients have to give written informed consent to participate in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who are not sufficiently compliant to ensure a follow-up of 12 months.

Successful antibiotic treatment of appendicitis, defined as non-requirement of appendectomy within the follow-up period of one and a half years.	—

Length of hospital stay, Pain scores (using a visual analog scale, VAS), length of sick leave from work, complications (using the Clavien- Dindo- Classification).	—
