Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: - license of the KVSH to be a GP for at least the proceeding last 5 years - if the physcian works in a practice with more than one physician, all further physicians need to be GPs as well and need to sign an informed consent form (in order to be allowed to analyze their data about antibiotic prescribing)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: withdrawal of informed consent
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| effect of a communication training for GPs on the antibiotic prescribing rate in respiratory diseases; measured as the difference of the prescribing rate in the intervention groups vs. the control group over the time period April-June 2013-2015 versus April-Juni 2016 - use of KVSH data related to diagnoses and prescribing of these two time periods - aggregation of time periods 2013-2015 into one rate (baseline prescribing, t0) - aggregation of the two intervention groups into one group which willl then be compared to the control group | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| 3 secondary endpoints: 1.) evaluation of the effect caused by provision of further information material (EbM-Online-Guidelines): difference of the antibiotic prescribing rate in the two intervention groups over the time period April-June 2013-2015 versus April-June 2016 2.) evaluation of antibiotic prescribing in dependence of the medical communication skills after the intervention, including only the intervention groups; communication skills will be measured by rating the videos with the MAAS-Global-D rating scale; with help of regression analysis (antibiotic prescribing rate after the intervention as the dependent variable), the importance of medical communication skills is considerd. Further covariates will be included, e.g. antibiotic prescribing rate before the intervention or PCP's characteristics. 3.) quantitative-qualitative evaluation of the communication training and the EbM-Guidelines by the participants in the intervention groups in order to obtain the use and usefulness | — |
