Interventions

Group 1: Estrogen pre-treatment (100 µg/24 h for 3 d)

insulin treatment (160 IU intranasal) and placebo treatment (nonactive diluting medium), respectively Group 2: Placebo pre-treatment (nonactive cellulose patches for 3 d)

Inclusion criteria: healthy non-smokers

Measure	Time frame
Ingestive behavior is assessed around 90 min after insulin/placebo spray administration by means of a rich breakfast buffet. Subjects are instructed to eat from the buffet ad libitum and at their own choice for 30 min.	—

Secondary

Measure	Time frame
Cognitive parameters (short-term memory, declarative memory, attention) are assessed by means of neuropsychological tests (digit span, 2D object location task, Stroop test) within 80 min after insulin/placebo administration.	—
